Milan Fashion Week AW25

Milan Fashion Week AW25

MILAN AW25
*Runways Framed, Streets Unfiltered

written CHIDOZIE OBASI

In times where society’s downturns are increasingly commonplace, fashion's mission is to exude a profound sense of societal relevance that can create both desire and intent: a purpose to set alight its deep connotation beyond mere conventions.

The Milan shows have proven to stick to a traditional code of conduct: a free of fuss aesthetic, teamed with pared-back, minimalist lines prevail over its British and American counterparts, where everything is blown to the max. The Milan shows, after all, wholly reflect the DNA of century-old traditions, and it's no surprise that the people of the city share that very sentiment. Gucci went back to its roots and archive for Fall 2025, as the house's founder Sabato De Sarno announced his departure earlier in February. This season, the lineup featured a lean towards a new colourway (dark, forest green) and a shift from its red (rosso ancora, as the house used to name it), bringing a newfound sense of femininity and glamour to the apparel.

Now, speaking of Iceberg, the brand seemed to be eschewing all manners of fuss and grounding to a linear approach and take of tailoring: tones are subdued, maxi logos are a far cry from the visual language and the pared-back appeal seems to be winning the race. On similar territory, Fendi celebrated its centenary this Fall with a collection that harked back to Silvia Venturini Fendi's memories and Karl: the collection renewed its affection for the house's classics, bringing forth a slew of timeless pieces that had sleek silhouettes, embellished details and a sinuous touch overall. Jil Sander, Prada, Moschino and Moschino offered levity and a dash of irreverence to the modern woman. Diesel offered tons of playfulness while Etro, D&G's runway had upbeat tempo ('cool girls', strutted both inside and outside the venue), and Vivetta continued its design path.

Prada Spring/Summer 2024 Campaign
New Era of Timeless Fashion

written Monica Mortenson

The new Prada Spring/Summer 2024 campaign, Days of Prada, stands as a vibrant testament to the enduring values and timeless elegance in an era often dominated by fleeting trends and fabricated narratives.

Under the visionary leadership of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, this campaign transcends the typical confines of fashion, weaving a narrative that celebrates the essence of style within the fabric of everyday life.

Central to Days of Prada is the reimagined concept of the fashion show. Traditionally a transient spectacle, Prada elevates it to a season-long narrative, transforming the runway into a rich ecosystem of meaning and diversity. This campaign delves into the dual nature of fashion – as both a personal badge of individuality and a communal symbol, merging momentary glamour with enduring style. It prompts a reflection on the integral role of fashion in our daily lives, skillfully blending the transient allure of the runway with the lasting impact of authentic style.

Capturing the soul of this campaign are the honest and pure portraits by photographer Willy Vanderperre. Each of the 40 models, a blend of familiar and new faces, is showcased in a balance of spontaneous intimacy and refined formalism. These portraits are form part of a collective narrative: they reflect the procession of the fashion show and engage in a broader conversation about fashion as a personal and communal expression.

Further enriching the campaign's narrative is Prada's foray into the world of cinema. Highlighting three internationally acclaimed actors – Harris Dickinson, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Troye Sivan – the campaign celebrates their unique personal characters. Here, fashion and personal narrative intersect, with each man portrayed not just as a model but as a protagonist of their own story.

This campaign reminds us that fashion is not an isolated art form but a collaborative journey, a collective profession enriched by the diverse stories it weaves together.

Let´s participate in a narrative that intertwines the personal with the universal, the ephemeral with the timeless, the individual with the collective.

This is the quintessence of Prada – a celebration of fashion's enduring power to tell stories and shape identities.

Linea Rossa Fall/Winter 2023
* When Mountain Dreamscapes Converse with Reality

written Monica Mortenson

A dreamlike place where snow-capped peaks kiss the azure skies and where time seems to hold its breath. It's here, in this serene valley nestled in Switzerland, that the story of Prada Linea Rossa Fall/Winter 2023 unfolds, narrating a compelling saga of action and imagination.

Guided by the artistic hand of Kris Lüdi, the campaign is more than just an advertisement; it's a journey. With visuals deeply rooted in the reality of high-performance sportswear - those masterfully crafted for winter sports - the campaign encapsulates the essence of this season's offerings.

But here’s where the narrative delves deeper: the resonant echoes of a poem in the region's native Romansh language set a profound tone. As every word sinks in, the viewer is transported between two worlds – the tangible and the dreamy.

In Engadin’s ethereal backdrop, the campaign crafts a confluence of contrasts. Traditional snowboarding gracefully co-exists with the adrenalin-pumping skeleton bobsleigh and speed skating. This dance of contrasts extends to the auditory experience as well – classical music takes an unexpected leap into the electrifying beats of modern grime.

The visuals too traverse time. Razor-sharp digital shots weave seamlessly with the nostalgic grain of film footage, leaving the viewer intrigued and reflective. Can the past morph into the present? With Prada Linea Rossa’s avant-garde perspective, it can. And not just morph – it can be reborn, refreshed, and reimagined.

It's this transformative nature of the campaign that aligns seamlessly with Prada Linea Rossa's brand philosophy. Positioned at the nexus of high-end fashion and sportswear, it creates not just attire, but an experience. It encourages viewers to challenge perspectives, to meld the real with the surreal, and to dream afresh.

In this world of contrasts, Prada Linea Rossa Fall/Winter 2023 is an invitation; an invitation to journey through a terrain where fashion transcends, sport inspires, and where dreamscapes converse effortlessly with reality.

PRADA HOLIDAY 2023 CAMPAIGN *Privatesphere

PRADA HOLIDAY 2023 CAMPAIGN *Privatesphere

New Campaign
Prada Holiday 2023 Privatesphere

* Discover your own sphere

written Mark Ashkins

The Prada Holiday 2023 campaign is a tantalizing testament to the spirit of holidays, narrating a tale of an impossible voyage, a journey set squarely in one's private sphere.

Think less of a departure from reality, and more of an exploration within it.

The lens of Willy Vanderperre, adept at capturing the ethereal, unveils four celestial beings: Maya Hawke, Damson Idris, Louis Partridge, and Kim Tae-Ri. These luminaries aren't just posing; they're existing, each encapsulated within their own shimmering baubles. Enveloped within these transparent spheres, the idea of confinement transforms into an emblem of boundless personal journeys. These glistening bubbles, both tangible and abstract, morph into unique vehicles - personal shuttles on a mission to navigate the vast horizons of one's imagination.

In the background, a marvelous juxtaposition unfolds. The timeless elegance of the iconic 1913 Prada boutique in Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II merges with the futuristic allure of the cosmos. The checked marble floor is no longer just a relic of historic Italian architecture; it's the very threshold of a galaxy brimming with the promise of the unknown. Each twinkling star beckons, a siren call to the explorer within.

This campaign is both a soliloquy and a symphony. It plays to the beat of duality - the art of being wholly present in the here and now while allowing the mind to wander galaxies away. This "private sphere" is Prada's gift to the dreamers: a sanctuary that transports you to faraway realms while keeping your feet firmly grounded.

Prada December Issue 2023
Cinematic Dreams Meet Couture Reality

written Sarah Arendts

Sitting at the nexus of cinematic allure and sartorial craftsmanship is Prada’s December Issue 2023 collection, and LE MILE is here to offer a front-row view.

The silver screen has always been Prada's playground, a world where timeless characters come alive, dripping in emotion, story, and inevitably, impeccable style. This season, the brand journeys through the celluloid archives of the 20th century, breathing life into yesteryears' icons with an added flair of today.

For the femme forces, there's a dance between the delicate and the powerful. Envision a world where fragility entwines with fierce determination. It’s a realm where the classic and the whimsical clash in the most harmonious way. The practical is laced with the plush, turning everyday wear into something spectacular. Feathers playfully flirt with hems, while the traditionally masculine overcoat undergoes a glamorous transformation through duchesse satin.

The materials used are both a nod to classics and a gentle push into the future. The stretch raso clings close, tracing every curve with grace, reminding one of vintage Hollywood glamour but with the sophistication of modern-day. Then there's a symphony in details: from crystal buttons mimicking bijoux to microscopic chains holding the essence of a dress together.

The men aren’t left behind in this cinematic dream. Their world is one of romantic heroism, of long, sweeping coats that billow with enigmatic allure. Silk tailoring, abstract floral sketches, and a nod to minimalism, all reflect Prada's signature touch. Remember those days of Hawaiian silk patterned shirts? Prada does, and they’ve brought it back, a memory of a sun-drenched era.

Knitwear takes center stage for both genders. It’s a tactile experience - sensual, comfortable, and so distinctly unique. Women can bask in the nostalgia of twinsets, and men can wrap themselves in the gentle embrace of oversized cashmere wonders.

Not to be forgotten are Prada's iconic accessories, a realm where old meets new. Vintage enthusiasts will delight in the resurgence of the Spring/Summer 1995 dress. Bags, the stalwarts of any outfit, undergo a rejuvenation, with classics like the Galleria, Odette, and Cleo shining in patent finishes.

Ending on footwear, Prada presents a range that is the epitome of the brand - slingbacks, sandals, mules, and more. Men can opt for minimal designs crafted in brushed leather and patent, embodying a quiet luxury.

Prada´s The Glass Age with Scarlett Johansson

Prada´s The Glass Age with Scarlett Johansson

written Sarah Arendts

The world of high fashion intersects with pop culture and fine art in a campaign celebrating the Prada Galleria handbag, featuring Scarlett Johansson and directed by Alex Da Corte. Aptly titled “The Glass Age,” the campaign marries color and reflections to explore the multifaceted character of humanity, identity, and self-transformation.

Johansson, renowned for her acclaimed performances in film and theater, brings a unique energy to the campaign. Her acting prowess, known for embodying different personas with precision and passion, mirrors the diversity inherent in Prada’s iconic Galleria bag. Together, they create a vivid portrayal of individuality and style.

Venezuelan-American artist Alex Da Corte, known for his pop and surrealistic artwork, directs the campaign, marking his debut in a fashion context. Da Corte's signature style is marked by vividly-hued and all-encompassing artistic environments, which explore the same notions of humanity and individuality that Johansson brings to her work.

In this creative milieu, Johansson continually morphs, her transformations framed by a wash of pure color that channels universal emotions and collective experiences. This play of color and transformation further enhances Johansson’s global fame, making it resonate powerfully within these visuals.

This campaign also sees the Galleria itself recontextualized. Its silhouette serves as a canvas for exploration, with color and patterns reflecting the transformative power of fashion and design. The bag mirrors the vibrant world around it, embodying the campaign’s motif of refraction and reflection.

“The Glass Age” is a distinctive blend of high and popular culture, blurring the lines between fashion, fine art, and popular iconography. This novel intersection offers an opportunity for audiences to witness a reimagining of their favorite cultural figures, as well as cherished fashion icons like the Prada Galleria.

With Hollywood star power, the creative genius of Alex Da Corte, and the timeless elegance of Prada, “The Glass Age” promises an immersive exploration of fashion, identity, and transformation.
